Barrick Lumwana Mining is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional for the role of Manager – Mineral Resource Management (MRM) based in Kalumbila, North West Province, Zambia. About the Role – Manager MRM Jobs in Kalumbila
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the Manager – MRM will oversee the strategic planning, estimation, reconciliation, and optimal utilization of mineral resources and ore reserves. This role is pivotal in ensuring resource and reserve models meet international reporting standards such as JORC, SAMREC, or NI 43-101, and are seamlessly integrated into mine planning across all time horizons. The successful candidate will drive value maximization from the orebody while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Mineral Resource Management Department to deliver the business plan in compliance with health and safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and company Safety, Health, and Environmental standards.
- Collaborate with planning and mining teams to optimize the Life of Mine (LOM) plan and maintain steady mine feed grades to meet metal production targets.
- Identify and communicate geological risks and opportunities, assessing their impact on mine plans.
- Optimize ROM stockpile levels and design stockpiling strategies to enhance operational flexibility and safety.
- Provide technical support in geology, hydrogeology, and geotechnical matters for mining and processing operations.
- Manage Grade Control and Resource Definition Drilling activities, ensuring accuracy and budget adherence.
- Oversee Mineral Resource and Grade Control models, ensuring compliance with international codes.
- Track ore block depletion to minimize ore loss and dilution through effective design and monitoring.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports including mine-to-mill reconciliations focused on continuous improvement.
- Manage contractors to ensure consistent delivery of quality and safety-compliant services.
- Collaborate with Exploration teams to identify and convert new resource opportunities into reserves.
- Mentor and train MRM team members to foster continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Conduct geological and mineral resource/reserve audits and due diligence assessments to maximize value.
- Manage MRM capital projects, ensuring they meet budget, timeline, and quality expectations.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in Mineral Resource Management or Geology, including at least 5 years in a managerial or senior technical role.
- Proven expertise in large-scale open cast/open pit mining operations.
- Strong commercial acumen with a clear understanding of cost, value, and risk drivers in open cast mining.
- Demonstrated leadership ability in resource estimation workflows and team collaboration.
- Valid registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
