Inventory Supervisor
JOB PURPOSE
To optimize inventory levels, ensure high parts availability, and maintain strict warehouse accuracy to minimize client equipment downtime and maximize operational profitability. The role oversees machinery parts and components management, supports customer accounts, and delivers quick, accurate logistics solutions to ensure seamless operational continuity.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inventory Control & Stocktakes: Conduct regular cycle counts and wall-to-wall stocktakes, investigating and resolving inventory variances promptly.
- Warehouse & Space Optimization: Structure storage layouts to maximize space utilization, safety compliance, and picking efficiency.
- Stock Availability & Performance: Monitor inventory levels to maintain high warehouse fill rates and parts availability for critical machinery components.
- Slow-Moving & Obsolete Stock: Identify and report slow-moving or obsolete inventory to protect working capital and optimize holding costs.
- Inbound Shipments & Invoicing: Coordinate with freight forwarding teams to track inbound international shipments and handle associated documentation and invoicing.
- Block Stock & Claims Management: Investigate reasons for items ending up in blocked stock, maintain reporting logs, and manage claims for damaged or missing vendor shipments through designated portals.
- Claims Processing & ERP Updates: Inspect claims, update registers, and log records in internal systems (e.g., SAP) within required timeframes, following up daily through resolution (close, return, or scrap).
- Bin Management & Scrap Disposal: Run bin availability reports, assign bins to unassigned stock, and process scrapped inventory in compliance with company policies.
- Order Tracking & Audit Support: Manage daily open stock orders, proof of delivery (POD) records, lead times, and surplus inventory, while providing required documentation for audit compliance.
- Warehouse Operations Support: Assist warehouse teams with daily operational tasks and execute authorized stock movements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education & Certifications
- Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent secondary education credential.
- Degree or Diploma in Purchasing and Supply, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Active, paid-up membership with a recognized professional purchasing and supply institute (e.g., ZIPS or local equivalent).
Experience & Competencies
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in warehouse operations or inventory control, ideally within heavy machinery, automotive, industrial supplies, or mining supply chains.
- Strong hands-on experience utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (such as SAP, Sage, Syspro, or equivalent).
- High level of attention to detail, analytical thinking, and structured problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and people leadership abilities.
- Assertive communication with customer-centric responsiveness and strong business/financial acumen.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and collaborative teamwork.
