Overall Responsibility
The Technical Lead - Warehousing & Distribution will provide technical leadership in warehousing, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), in-country distribution and inventory control; strengthen warehouse efficiency and inventory visibility; monitor distribution performance; support third-party logistics providers and cold chain operations; and build the capacity of ZAMMSA staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Public Health, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in warehousing and distribution management.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Deep understanding of ZAMMSA operations and regional hubs.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Master's in Supply Chain Management or Logistics.
- Certification in warehousing and distribution management.
- Experience with PEPFAR-funded programs.
- Experience with 3PL contracting and management.
- Experience with cold chain and temperature-sensitive commodities.

Key Responsibilities
Warehousing & WMS
- Leading the implementation of the WMS improvement plan to strengthen warehouse efficiency, inventory visibility, and system performance.
- Overseeing the institutionalization of inventory control systems and practices to improve stock accuracy, accountability, and availability.
- Managing warehouse and distribution risks and audit requirements, ensuring timely mitigation of identified gaps and compliance with established standards.
- Conducting inventory accuracy audits to identify discrepancies and drive corrective actions.
- Supporting WMS adoption across warehousing and distribution operations through technical guidance, user support, and capacity building.
In-Country Distribution
- Maintaining Distribution Tracking Tools (DTT) and ePOD systems to ensure end-to-end visibility and accurate distribution data.
- Monitoring On-Time In-Full (OTIF) performance and driving continuous improvement in distribution efficiency and service levels.
- Addressing distribution exceptions and leading route optimization initiatives to improve delivery performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Supporting the management of third-party logistics (3PL) providers and monitoring compliance with contractual and service-level requirements.
- Supporting cold chain monitoring and ensuring adherence to temperature-control requirements throughout storage and distribution processes.
Inventory Control
- Institutionalizing standardized warehousing and inventory management processes to strengthen operational efficiency and accountability.
- Conducting physical inventory counts and reconciliation to ensure alignment between physical stock and system records.
- Implementing FEFO (First-Expiry, First-Out) practices to minimize expiries and optimize inventory utilization.
- Monitoring inventory accuracy and wastage levels and implementing corrective actions to reduce losses.
Capacity Building
- Mentoring ZAMMSA staff to strengthen warehousing, inventory management, and distribution competencies.
- Supporting competency development through structured coaching, on-the-job training, and knowledge sharing.
- Implementing the “I Do, We Do, You Do” approach to facilitate practical learning and sustainable skills transfer.
- Ensuring effective step-down of warehousing and distribution systems, processes, and competencies to GRZ structures.
