About the Role – Safety Officer Jobs in Kalumbila

Reporting directly to the Senior Safety Officer – LEP, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining a strong, visible safety presence on site. Your responsibilities will include coordinating and implementing the Lumwana Mining Company’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management system to meet international standards efficiently and effectively.

Key duties include:

• Providing expert advice, support, and coaching to contractors and employees on health and safety risk management.
• Conducting comprehensive workplace safety audits and inspections across the site.
• Managing safety documentation and maintaining accurate records.
• Monitoring and reporting on incident trends, audit outcomes, and corrective actions.
• Leading incident investigations, risk assessments, and participating in safety forums.
• Overseeing health and safety training and presentations within your operational unit.
• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance.
• Ensuring compliance with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy and promoting safe work procedures.
• Driving team safety awareness and maintaining up-to-date job procedures.

Candidate Requirements for Safety Officer Jobs in Kalumbila

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in construction projects.
• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or equivalent qualification.
• At least 3 years post-qualification experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a mining or industrial environment.
• Proficiency in incident and accident investigation.
• Physically fit to pass pre-employment medical exams and annual health screenings.
• Working knowledge of safety management systems, preferably ISO, AS, or NOSA standards.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead teams safely and enhance safety culture.
• Strong understanding of relevant mining industry legislation in Zambia.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
• Membership in a relevant professional body is required.
• Fluent communication skills in English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Clean Class B or C manual driver’s license.
