Position Overview

As a Senior Exploration Geologist reporting directly to the Exploration Manager, you will lead a team of geoscientists focused on advancing exploration projects at various stages. Your role will involve designing and managing exploration programs, evaluating new business opportunities, and fostering the professional growth of project geologists through mentorship and training. You will play a pivotal role in driving the discovery of high-value copper and gold deposits that support Barrick’s growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities for Senior Exploration Geologist Jobs in Lusaka

• Lead and develop exploration programs primarily in project generation and target delineation stages.
• Oversee field operations ensuring the highest standards in geological data capture, safety compliance, and community relations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate advanced exploration projects and identify Tier 1 copper deposit opportunities.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations in English and/or French for internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure timely delivery of geological data and reports in accordance with Geoinformatics standards.
• Maintain close communication with the Exploration Manager to address technical needs and training requirements.
• Coordinate with Sustainability teams to implement and monitor health, safety, environmental, and community engagement protocols.
• Manage permitting processes to ensure exploration activities proceed without delays.
• Promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the exploration team.
• Work with Human Resources on talent management activities including recruitment, performance evaluation, and mentoring.
• Communicate relevant community, safety, health, environment, and risk information to the exploration team.

Qualifications and Experience

• Professional degree in Geology from a recognized university.
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in base metals mineral exploration, with preference for sediment-hosted copper systems.
• Experience with orogenic gold, magmatic-hydrothermal, SEDEX, or VMS systems is advantageous.
• Proven track record in planning and executing drilling campaigns, including reverse circulation and diamond drilling.
• Leadership experience and interdisciplinary collaboration with Health, Safety, Environment, and Community teams.
• Proficiency with geology software such as Leapfrog, ArcGIS Pro, and Iogas is desirable.
• Intermediate to advanced English communication skills, both written and oral.
• Valid Class B driver’s license and 4×4 driving experience.
• Strong leadership, motivation for discovery, teamwork, flexibility, and organizational skills.
