We are recruiting on behalf of a prominent steel manufacturing company located in Lusaka, Zambia. Position Overview – Machine Shop Supervisor / Machine Shop In-Charge

The successful candidate will oversee daily machine shop activities, ensuring efficient production of industrial components such as shafts, rollers, bushes, and gears. You will supervise machinists and operators, manage CNC and conventional machinery, and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities for Machine Shop Supervisor Jobs in Lusaka

• Supervise and coordinate daily operations within the machine shop.
• Lead and assign tasks to machinists and machine operators effectively.
• Operate and oversee CNC and conventional machining equipment.
• Ensure all machining work complies with specifications and deadlines.
• Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, and tolerances accurately.
• Monitor machine conditions, tooling, and equipment performance regularly.
• Troubleshoot machining and production issues promptly.
• Enforce quality standards and workplace safety protocols consistently.
• Optimize productivity by managing resources efficiently, including manpower and materials.

Candidate Requirements

• 5 to 6 years of hands-on experience operating CNC and conventional lathes, milling machines, slotting machines, shapers, and related equipment.
• 2 to 3 years in a supervisory role such as Machine Shop Supervisor, In-Charge, or Team Leader.
• Experience working in medium to large-scale industrial machine shops.
• Background in steel manufacturing, heavy engineering, fabrication, mining, or similar heavy industrial sectors.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and adhering to dimensions and tolerances.
• Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, measurement techniques, and quality control.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to prioritize production tasks and lead a team effectively.
• Commitment to safety, quality assurance, and productivity improvement.

Qualifications and Professional Affiliations

• Valid trade certificate or an equivalent recognized technical qualification.
• Relevant occupational health and safety training or certification.
• Additional training in CNC machining or programming is advantageous.
• Certification or training in engineering drawing, precision measurement, or quality control is a plus.
• Membership or registration with a recognized engineering or technical professional body is beneficial where applicable.
