Role Overview:

Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily mechanical workshop operations within the Steel Melting Shop Mechanical Maintenance Department (SMS MMD). Oversee fabrication, welding, machining, fitting, and component repairs to support continuous plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

i. Operations & Maintenance:

Allocate daily work orders, oversee structural/component refurbishment (shafts, housings, pipelines, rollers), and manage urgent plant breakdown repairs.

ii. Supervision & Safety:

Lead toolbox talks, enforce HSE regulations (JSA, Permit-to-Work, PPE compliance), and mentor junior artisans and apprentices.

iii. Quality & Cost Control:

Inspect finished works against engineering drawings, optimize material usage, reduce downtime, and drive in-house fabrication initiatives.

  • Grade 12 Certificate plus Diploma or Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Maintenance, or Welding & Fabrication.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industry (SMS/steel-making experience strongly preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of direct supervisory experience in a mechanical workshop environment.
  • Strong competency in hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drives, rigging, and engineering drawing interpretation.
