Key Requirements

• Proven experience in cost accounting, stock reconciliations, inventory controls and the preparation of accurate monthly financial reports.
• Strong understanding of production costing, including monitoring production expenses, analysing cost variances and maintaining accurate cost information.
• Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial variance analysis to assist management with informed financial decision-making.
• Previous experience working with inventory and stock control processes, including identifying discrepancies and investigating variances.
• Experience using accounting software, with knowledge of Sage or a similar accounting system being beneficial.
• Exposure to a production, agriculture, manufacturing or other operational environment where accurate costing and inventory management are important.
• Good understanding of financial controls, accounting procedures and maintaining accurate financial records.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain accurate cost accounting records across production activities, ensuring that costs are correctly captured, allocated and reported.
• Conduct regular stock reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and variances, and ensure that inventory records remain accurate and up to date.
• Implement and monitor effective inventory control procedures to minimise losses, maintain accurate stock records and safeguard company assets.
• Prepare accurate monthly management and cost reports, providing relevant financial information to support operational and management decisions.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis by monitoring production costs and identifying significant movements or areas requiring attention.
• Work closely with finance, production and procurement teams to ensure that cost, stock and purchasing information is accurately captured and properly reflected in financial records.
• Ensure that financial transactions and cost accounting processes comply with established internal controls, accounting procedures and company policies.
• Provide support during month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations, reporting and resolving outstanding financial discrepancies.

• Strong inventory and stock control skills, including the ability to investigate discrepancies and identify potential control issues.
• Good budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and identify trends.
• High attention to detail and accuracy when working with financial, stock and cost information.
• Good knowledge of accounting systems and financial processes, with the ability to learn and work effectively with ERP or accounting software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across finance, production and procurement departments.
• Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and consistently meet reporting deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a practical approach to investigating financial and inventory discrepancies.
• High level of integrity and reliability when handling financial records, stock information and confidential company data.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Cost Accounting or a related field.
• ACCA, ZICA or another recognised professional accounting qualification.
• Relevant accounting or finance qualification supported by practical experience in cost accounting or financial reporting.
• Additional training or experience in inventory management, financial controls or management accounting would be beneficial.
