JOB TITLE: SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SAFEGUARDS SPECIALIST

Duty Station: Zambia

Employment Type: Project-Based / Consultancy

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Social and Environmental Safeguards Specialist to support the assessment and management of environmental and social risks associated with infrastructure and energy projects.

The successful candidate will ensure that relevant environmental and social safeguards are integrated into project planning and implementation in accordance with applicable Zambian requirements and relevant international standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental and social impact assessments and safeguards screening.
• Assess environmental and social risks associated with infrastructure and energy projects.
• Prepare or review Environmental and Social Management Plans and related documentation.
• Support the implementation of environmental and social screening procedures.
• Identify mitigation measures for potential environmental and social impacts.
• Engage with affected communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Support compliance with applicable environmental and social standards.
• Prepare technical reports and safeguards recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Social Development, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience in environmental and social impact assessment and safeguards screening.
• Familiarity with the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) requirements and applicable environmental assessment procedures.
• Knowledge of international environmental and social standards is an advantage.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and technical writing skills.
