Role Purpose

To manage and lead the Remanufacturing Workshop responsible for end-to-end rebuilding of components (disassembly, cleaning, repair, assembly, and testing) for mining dump trucks and excavators, ensuring safe, high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective production output. The role provides middle management leadership over experienced technical professionals, translating short term operational strategy into executable production plans, while driving continuous improvement, OEM compliance, HSE excellence, cost efficiency, and national capability development in line with company localization, sustainability, and profitability objectives.

Role Allocation — 80/20 Model

80% Core Operational Responsibilities

  • Production planning and control, remanufacturing quality assurance, workflow management, inventory and equipment control, process discipline, workshop asset care, HSE leadership, cost and downtime control, and cross-functional coordination.

20% People Development & Capacity Building

  • Coaching and mentoring supervisors and technicians, structured OJT, skills gap analysis, IDP support, localization and successor development, recruitment, performance management, and systematic knowledge transfer.

Core Responsibilities (Aligned to Framework Sections)

A. 80% Operational Responsibilities

1. Production & Workshop Management

  • Plan, direct, and monitor full remanufacturing workflow (planning, teardown, cleaning, repair, assembly, testing, and delivery) to meet approved production schedules, volumes, quality, and cost targets.
  • Translate short-term operational strategy (≤1 year) into daily and weekly production plans.
  • Allocate labor, tooling, and workshop resources to optimize throughput and efficiency.
  • Manage work-in-progress (WIP) in collaboration with Planning and Supply Chain to ensure flow and timely delivery.
  • Monitor productivity, capacity utilization, schedule adherence, rework, and wastage trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to enhance output.

Quality Assurance & Reliability

Ensure all remanufactured components meet OEM specifications, tolerances, and quality standards. Implement quality control checks (QC gates) at all stages of the rebuild process. Oversee inspection, testing, and acceptance processes prior to release. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for defects, repeat failures, rework, or customer complaints. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance component life, reliability, and First Pass Yield (FPY).

Process Discipline & Systems

  • Enforce compliance with approved SOPs, work instructions, and remanufacturing standards.
  • Utilize ERP / workshop systems to track production, WIP, costs, and material consumption.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and reporting discipline.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering on process improvement, tooling, and layout optimization.
  • Drive data-based decision-making using workshop performance metrics and dashboards.
  • Oversee equipment readiness, calibration, and maintenance compliance.
  • Coordinate shutdowns, repairs, and upgrades to avoid production disruptions.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and availability of workshop equipment and tools.

HSE Leadership

  • Provide visible and active leadership in HSE compliance and safe work practices.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant workshop environment aligned to ISO and OHS standards.
  • Ensure risk assessments, toolbox talks, and incident investigations are conducted.
  • Enforce compliance with statutory, OEM, and company HSE standards.

Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Engagement

Liaise with Operations, Supply Chain, Logistics, Technical Advisory, and Sales on production planning and priorities. Support customer joint inspections, audits, and confidence-building visits as required. Influence stakeholders outside the workshop on policies, practices, and procedures impacting production.

Inventory, Equipment & Cost Management

Manage component inventory and ensure availability of critical materials. Control scrap, rework, and consumption to drive cost efficiency. Support and manage budget adherence, cost tracking, and reporting of workshop KPIs. Contribute to annual budget preparation and operational cost optimization initiatives.

Budgeting & Reporting

Develop and manage the annual workshop budget in line with operational targets. Prepare and submit reports on:

  • Production performance
  • Cost vs budget
  • KPI performance
  • Operational risks and improvements
