Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or a related field.
• 5–7 years’ experience in operational excellence, continuous improvement, operations, manufacturing, mining, logistics, or related environments.
• Proven experience developing and implementing operational excellence strategies across a site or organisation.
• Strong knowledge of Lean methodologies, continuous improvement tools, and data-driven problem-solving techniques.
• Experience identifying operational issues, assessing their impact, and prioritising improvement opportunities.
• Proven experience managing multiple improvement projects from planning through to implementation and results measurement.
• Experience developing operational standards, visual management systems, performance measures, and improvement processes.
• Strong understanding of quality, productivity, cost management, efficiency, and service performance.
• Experience training, coaching, and developing teams in continuous improvement and operational excellence practices.
• Proven ability to influence and mobilise stakeholders at different organisational levels.
• Strong leadership experience with the ability to drive teams towards common operational goals.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, results-driven operational environment.
• Strong understanding of performance monitoring and operational KPI management.
• Knowledge of logistics and shipping operations would be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive operational excellence initiatives focused on improving safety, quality, cost, productivity, and lead times.
• Identify operational issues and maintain a structured register of improvement opportunities.
• Assess, prioritise, and plan continuous improvement projects based on business impact.
• Define appropriate methodologies, resources, timelines, and objectives for improvement projects.
• Lead critical operational excellence projects and ensure successful implementation.
• Develop and implement Lean tools, visual management, operational standards, and problem-solving processes.
• Train and coach managers and employees on operational excellence principles and improvement techniques.
• Build internal capability by developing employees’ problem-solving and continuous improvement skills.
• Monitor quality of service and operational KPIs to identify areas requiring improvement.
• Track project progress, measure results, and ensure improvements are sustained over time.
• Engage leadership and operational teams to gain support for improvement initiatives.
• Communicate operational excellence objectives, initiatives, progress, and results across the organisation.
• Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, teamwork, and performance.
• Identify successful improvement practices and support their implementation across other operational areas.
• Analyse operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide recommendations to management on operational performance and improvement priorities.
• Support strategic planning by aligning operational excellence initiatives with business objectives.
• Conduct regular follow-ups on improvement actions and ensure agreed activities are completed.
• Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve processes, optimise resources, and increase operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / equivalent school qualification.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, or a related field.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Project Management certification such as PMP would be beneficial.
• MBA or relevant Master’s qualification would be beneficial.
• Membership of a relevant professional body.
• 5–7 years’ relevant experience in operational excellence, continuous improvement, operations, manufacturing, mining, logistics, or related fields.
• Proven experience implementing Lean methods and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience strategically deploying operational excellence within a site or organisation.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement experience.
• Strong knowledge of data-driven problem solving and operational performance management.
