Role Overview – Underground Mine Captain

The Underground Mine Captain will lead the safe, efficient, and productive execution of underground mining activities. This leadership role involves supervising Shift Bosses and Persons in Charge (P.I.C.s), ensuring strict adherence to statutory regulations, company policies, mine plans, and ground support standards, while meeting production targets.

Key Responsibilities for Mine Captain Jobs in Chililabombwe

• Demonstrate and promote visible safety leadership at all times.
• Ensure full compliance with all statutory mining legislation and company standards.
• Conduct routine underground inspections and verify workplace examinations meet required standards.
• Implement approved weekly and daily mining plans effectively.
• Coordinate production activities across all active headings to optimize output.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Survey, and Safety Departments.
• Supervise and mentor Shift Bosses and monitor the performance of P.I.C.s.
• Develop supervisory capabilities through coaching and constructive feedback.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of mining legislation and regulatory frameworks, with proven experience working in dynamic and challenging underground mining environments. Strong communication skills are essential to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.

• Grade 12 certificate required.
• Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Extensive knowledge of underground mining operations with a strong safety focus.
• Eligibility for appointment as a 204 Statutory Underground Manager.
• Previous sinking experience is mandatory.
• Experience with raise bore and shotcrete operations is highly desirable.
• Valid Blasting Licence and First Aid Certificate.
• Competence in statutory underground supervisory duties.
• Minimum of 10 to 15 years’ experience in underground mining, including significant leadership roles.
