Position Overview for General Surgeon Jobs in Kalulushi

The appointed General Surgeon will be responsible for delivering comprehensive surgical services, including evaluating patients, planning and performing surgical procedures, and managing post-operative care. This role is critical in diagnosing and treating injuries, diseases, and deformities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient examinations and review medical histories to identify surgical needs.
• Develop and communicate surgical plans, discussing risks, benefits, and alternatives with patients.
• Perform a wide range of surgical operations, from minor to major, utilizing traditional, minimally invasive, or robotic techniques.
• Prescribe and oversee preoperative and postoperative treatments, monitoring patient recovery closely.
• Ensure strict sterility and safety protocols in the operating room, managing surgical instruments and equipment properly.
• Collaborate effectively with anaesthesiologists, nursing staff, and surgical assistants to provide holistic patient care.
• Mentor and supervise junior surgeons, residents, and surgical teams, particularly in senior or consultant capacities.
• Stay informed on the latest advancements in surgical methods, medical devices, and patient care standards.
• Perform administrative duties such as meticulous record keeping as directed by the Director of Clinical Care.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Completion of Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
• MBChB or equivalent medical degree from a recognized university.
• MMED in General Surgery or relevant postgraduate qualification from a recognized institution.
• Full registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and a valid practising licence.
• Minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience as a General Surgeon.
• Accreditation or fellowship with a recognized medical body is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Traceable professional references.
