Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.
Zambia Sugar carries out Off-Crop maintenance works in the Factory for a duration of up to four (4) months. The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following Off-Crop position in the Manufacturing Department.
1.ENGINEERING QUALITY CONTROLLER – CONSTRUCTION FABRICATION x 1
MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)
This position reports to the Reliability Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for detailing the relevant quality control checks under construction fabrication and ensure that the said checks are being carried out according to set standards.
Key Performance Areas
- Provide oversight of various quality control functions required on key factory construction maintenance activities in the plant.
- Supervising quality control checks on various mechanical equipment throughout the plant, undertaking all quality control checks that will guarantee a full season run – the checks will include analysis of wear and recommendation on actions to be taken to ensure the reliability of the equipment.
- Increase welding productivity by using accurate fit-ups, proper use of welders, proper weld sizing, effective weld station design, and elimination of rework and scrap.
- Manage the documentation requirements detailed in the Quality Control Management Plan.
- Report all issues to the Reliability Engineer/ Engineering Manager and the Quality Control Team Lead for applicable activities.
- Engage with various stake holders during execution of the works including ensuring sufficient interface between all parties.
- Strong liaising with Plant owners to ensure buy-in from the team on the required works.
- Train and test artisans pre and/or post off crop.
- Generate WPS for construction purposes.
- Occasionally assist with certain projects, activities and functions assigned by the Management team
- Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
Minimum Qualifications
Grade 12 Certificate
Technician certificate in Metal Fabrication/Welding
Preferably 5+ years post experience in a heavy industry environment
A Trainers qualification will be an added advantage
Experience in the sugar industry is an added advantage
Must have solid Construction related experience with adequate knowledge on WPS from supervisor levels upwards and QC experience.
Must be able to read blueprints.
Must have deep knowledge of welding and cutting processes: familiarity with welding, cutting equipment, brazing, knowledge of theory, and applications.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time and safely manoeuvre nearby: Able to bend, kneel, squat, crouch, crawl, balance, and stoop
Experience operating and setting multiple types of welding equipment
Must have both verbal and written strong communication skills
Must have Welding experience in the manufacturing, construction, fabrication, and pipe industries.
Must possess time management and organization skills
Must have the ability to work both as a team member and team leader
