About Fields Energy
Fields Energy is an energy supply business headquartered in Ndola, serving commercial customers across Zambia and the wider region. Our customers are organisations whose operations depend on reliable supply, and we build long term relationships with them through dependable service and close attention to their needs.
About the role
This role is for someone who enjoys building relationships from the very first conversation. You will introduce Fields Energy to organisations across the Copperbelt and North-Western Province, get to know the people who make decisions within them, and develop those relationships into lasting business for the company.
You will spend most of your week in the field, meeting people where they work. Your focus is on new relationships and new opportunities, supported by a leadership team that takes each opportunity forward with you. When your work turns into business, you share directly in the result.
What you'll work on
- Building a clear understanding of the organisations across your territory and of how each of them makes decisions
- Meeting procurement, supply chain, finance and operations professionals, and building relationships that last well beyond the first meeting
- Identifying where Fields Energy can help, and bringing the leadership team in at the right moment with a clear brief
- Guiding the company through supplier registration, prequalification and tender processes
- Keeping a disciplined record of every contact and opportunity, and giving the leadership team a clear update each week
- Sharing what you learn about customers' plans and changing needs across the region
What we're looking for
- At least three years in business development or field sales, with a record of winning access to large organisations in Zambia
- An existing network across the Copperbelt or North-Western Province. You know who makes the decisions, and they take your call
- A working understanding of formal procurement: vendor registration, approved supplier lists and tenders
- High energy and the habit of acting without being asked. You plan your own week and you fill it
- Persistence. Large buyers are busy and slow to reply, and you follow up until you get a clear answer
- Integrity. You report your pipeline as it is, and you never offer or accept anything improper to win business
- A valid Zambian driving licence and the willingness to travel across both provinces every week
Nice to have
- Experience selling operational products or services that customers buy every month
- Fluency in Bemba or another local language
- Experience working with a CRM system
This isn't the right fit if
- You prefer to work from an office for most of the week
- You need a manager to plan your week or to tell you who to call next
- You would rather look after existing accounts than build new relationships
- You find it difficult to walk into an organisation where nobody knows you yet
- You are looking for a role with fixed routines and little travel
What we offer
- A competitive base salary
- A performance incentive with significant earning potential, paid when the business you open becomes revenue
- Support for travel and communication across your territory
- Direct access to the leadership team and real influence over where we focus next
Why join
The person in this role will shape how Fields Energy is known across the Copperbelt and North-Western Province. The role offers a high degree of autonomy, close support from the leadership team and a reward that grows with the results you deliver.
If that sounds like the kind of work you want to be judged on, we would like to hear from you.
How to apply
Send your CV and a short covering note to hr@fieldsenergy.co (not .com) with "Business Development Executive" in the subject line. In your note, tell us about two organisations you opened as new customers: how you got in, who you met and what happened next.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet members of the leadership team.
Equal opportunity
Fields Energy is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants on merit, without regard to sex, tribe, religion, disability, age or any other personal characteristic.
