About the Role
Looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee all production activities in their manufacturing facility — planning, coordinating, and controlling workshop operations to ensure quality, efficiency, safety, and on-time delivery of furniture orders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production & Operations
Plan and schedule daily production: cutting, joinery, assembly, sanding, finishing, upholstery
Ensure production targets, lead times, and quality standards are met
Optimize workflow and material usage to reduce waste
2. Team Leadership
Supervise and train carpenters, machine operators, sprayers, upholsterers, and workshop assistants
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and conduct skills development
Maintain discipline, morale, and productivity
3. Quality Control
Ensure all furniture meets company specifications and client requirements
Conduct in-process and final quality checks on raw materials and finished products
Address defects and implement corrective actions
4. Materials, Machines & Maintenance
Monitor stock levels of timber, hardware, upholstery, adhesives, and finishes
Coordinate with procurement for timely material supply
Oversee maintenance and safe operation of woodworking machines (table saws, planers, sanders, spray booth)
Ensure tools and equipment are well maintained and calibrated
5. Health, Safety & Compliance
Enforce workshop safety policies, PPE use, and housekeeping standards
Ensure compliance with labour laws and occupational health & safety regulations
Manage waste disposal, dust extraction, and fire safety protocols
6. Reporting & Coordination
Report daily/weekly production output, downtime, and issues to management
Liaise with Sales, Design, Procurement, and Installation teams
Prepare job cards, production schedules, and material requisitions
Requirements
Diploma/Degree in Wood Technology, Carpentry, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Minimum 5 years in furniture manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role
Strong knowledge of wood types, joinery, finishing, and upholstery
Proficiency in reading technical drawings and cut lists
Experience with woodworking machinery and workshop management
Soft skills: leadership, problem-solving, time management, communication, attention to detail
Must be hands-on and able to work in a production environment
