Position Overview – Underwriter Agriculture Jobs in Lusaka

As an Underwriter in the Agriculture department, you will play a critical role in supporting agricultural underwriting functions. Your expertise will contribute to assessing risks, developing underwriting guidelines, and enhancing agricultural insurance products tailored to the needs of farmers, cooperatives, and financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate agricultural risks associated with crops, livestock, and agribusiness enterprises.
• Develop and implement underwriting policies and guidelines for agricultural insurance.
• Contribute to the design and improvement of agricultural insurance products.
• Collaborate with banks, cooperatives, and farmer associations to create customised insurance solutions.
• Ensure timely and accurate issuance of agricultural insurance policies.
• Review and approve proposals, quotations, and endorsements within delegated authority.
• Provide technical expertise on agricultural insurance products and claims assessments.
• Support business development initiatives, client engagements, and market outreach.
• Assess complex or high-value agricultural risks and provide recommendations.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 Certificate with five O Levels, including Mathematics and English.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Agroforestry, Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related disciplines.
• Professional qualifications such as ACII or CII are highly desirable.
• Valid Driver’s Licence.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in underwriting, insurance, or risk assessment.
• Strong understanding of agricultural production systems, associated risks, and insurance mechanisms.
• Knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment methodologies, and actuarial pricing concepts.
• Excellent analytical, research, and technical writing skills.
• Proven negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Familiarity with Zambia’s insurance regulatory framework.
• Proficiency in insurance management software and Microsoft Office applications.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based at ZSIC General Insurance Limited’s Head Office, with regular collaboration across departments and branches. The position also involves field visits to farms, cooperatives, agro-dealers, and project sites for risk assessments, loss verification, and direct engagement with farmers.
