Sulzer, a global leader in engineering innovation, is seeking experienced Test Bed Engineers to join our team in Chingola, Copperbelt Province, Zambia. We currently have three full-time positions available at our Sulzer Zambia Service Centre.

About the Test Bed Engineer Role

Reporting to the Service Centre Manager, the Test Bed Engineer will be responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of the Pump Performance Test Bed. This critical role ensures that all pumps assembled, refurbished, or serviced by Sulzer Zambia meet Sulzer Flow “Excellence” standards, contractual obligations, and OEM specifications before delivery. The position supports key contracts such as the KCM agreement and helps position the facility as a regional hub serving major mining and industrial customers across Central Africa.

Key Responsibilities for Test Bed Engineer Jobs in Chingola

• Test Preparation & Execution: Prepare pumps for testing, including rigging, alignment, coupling, and instrumentation installation. Conduct pump performance tests following Sulzer Flow procedures, ISO 9906 standards, and customer requirements.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze test results, generate performance curves, identify deviations, and prepare certified test reports and performance certificates.
• Quality, HSE & Compliance: Ensure all testing complies with Sulzer’s Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality policies. Perform routine calibration and participate in corrective actions for non-conformances.
• Collaboration & Communication: Coordinate with workshop teams and management to schedule testing and resolve performance issues. Liaise with regional technical teams as needed.
• Facility Maintenance & Continuous Improvement: Maintain the test bed facility and equipment, contribute to improving testing efficiency and safety, and assist in updating standard operating procedures.
• Flexible Operations: Participate in shift rotations and provide on-site testing support at customer locations when required.

Skills and Experience Required

• National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 3 to 5 years of practical experience in pump testing, rotating equipment commissioning, or related technical fields within industrial or mining environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of pump performance testing, rotating equipment, and hydraulic principles.
• Familiarity with pump testing standards (ISO 9906) and instrumentation calibration.
• Proficiency with data acquisition systems, test bed control software, and ERP systems such as SAP is advantageous.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, and interpret pump performance curves.
• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
• Self-motivated, deadline-oriented, and adaptable to shift work.
• Valid driver’s license and proficiency in English; knowledge of French or local languages is beneficial.

Work Environment and Additional Requirements

The role is primarily based at the Sulzer Zambia Service Centre in Chingola and involves hands-on work in an industrial workshop environment. Strict health and safety protocols mitigate exposure to rotating equipment and pressurized systems. Shift work and occasional travel to customer sites may be necessary. Candidates must comply with Sulzer’s Disciplinary Code of Conduct, 5’S standards, and all relevant policies.
