Job Description

The role is responsible for carrying out survey work and producing survey drawings and diagrams showing the legal extents of company property boundaries, as well as designing and producing survey drawings to facilitate the construction and maintenance of capital and routine engineering projects.

The position will report to the Senior Survey Technologist

Key Accountabilities

  • To assist the Senior Survey Technologist in providing information to engineers or professional surveyors to develop methods and procedures for carrying out field surveys.
  • To assist in carrying out field surveys and operate survey instruments and computer equipment to measure distance, angles, elevations, and contours
  • Carrying out surveys using various survey equipment. Traversing for placing boundaries and lines for company properties and transmission lines.
  • Carrying out levelling services for engineering works ensuring professional use of survey equipment to facilitate production of construction profiles to acceptable standards.
  • Setting out of foundations and buildings to acceptable engineering and building standards.
  • Assist the Legal department in the verification of property boundaries, being conversant in cadastral practices and the Lands Survey Act and Regulations (Cap188).
  • Carries out site reconnaissance survey, design of HV transmission line routes.
  • Conduct site surveys for wayleave road rehabilitation works and produce survey drawings with sufficient road data to enable contractors to implement rehabilitation works.
  • Conduct plant and project site visits to observe manufacture, construction and fabrication works to ensure compliance to the working drawings.
  • Update drawings continuously to capture new developments. And make modifications to original designs to suit local and operating conditions, e.g., rehabilitation works on existing equipment & structures.
  • Produce plans, sketches, layouts and detailed construction and survey drawings in compliance with international standards (BSI) and other codes of practice for construction, tender, site investigation and any other purposes as may be required by the superior using CAD and other related software’s like GTX, Google Earth, Surpac, Surfer and DNR Garmin.
  • Carry out initial site investigations and reconnaissance in conjunction with Engineers, Project Managers and Directors to ensure the complete understanding of the engineering requirements to facilitate the preparation of accurate drawings.
  • Ensure full utilisation of VTI (Vendor Technical Information), manufacturers' equipment operating manuals and specifications) when undertaking various forms of surveys for maintenance and project works.
  • Undertake any other jobs that may be added from time to time as assigned by supervisor.
  • Undertake and complete given assignments within allocated time frame to avoid unnecessary overtime.
  • Ensure that all company resources under the section are used solely for company purposes and that there is no misuse of assets such as materials, drawings, implements, etc.
  • Assist Snr Drafters & Chief Drafter in ensuring that subordinates' work complies with British standards, IEC specifications. & SHE company policy.
  • Assist Snr Drafters/Chief Drafter in ensuring that existing and new employees & vacation students receive adequate training and development (use of AutoCAD software, drawing boards & drawing office management technology) as they pass through the drawing office to enable them to reach desired levels of competence in their disciplines in accordance with the Company program and requirements.
  • Assist the Senior Drafter with the help of the IT department in ensuring that the integrity of the drawings database is always maintained so that there is easy extraction of drawings whenever required by customers, both local and external.

To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:

  1. Grade 12 certificate
  2. Minimum Diploma in Surveying.
  3. Registration with a relevant professional body.
  4. Minimum 2 Years’ experience in the surveying field
  5. Post-tertiary training in Surveying or Mapping technology
  6. Strong mathematics skills, specifically geometry, trigonometry, and algebra
  7. Proficient in the use of variety and thorough understanding of surveying equipment, and be able to solve technical issues should they arise
  8. Proficiency in CAD, Trimble GPS, Civil 3D, and GIS.
  9. Competent in the use of various survey equipment.
