Job Description
The statistician will provide reliable statistical evidence to support actuarial valuations, pension administration, funding analysis, demographic analysis, benefit projections, investment & risk analysis, and management reporting.
The Statistician is responsible for gathering complex numerical data and displaying it in easy-to-understand formats that will assist the Authority to make sense of quantitative data and spot trends, make forecasts for the attainment of the Authority’s corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and run long-term open-group projections of membership, contributions, benefit outgo, assets and funding position.
- Produce regular actuarial and funding indicators for management accounts, including but not limited to funding level, support ratio, cost of benefits as a percentage of contribution income.
- Prepare reports, dashboards and presentations that explain actuarial results in clear non-specialist language.
- Compilation of data used for the Authority’s actuarial, statistical, annual and other reports as may be required.
- Support asset-liability modelling work, assisting with the evaluation of the match between assets and liabilities and the Scheme's investment strategy.
- Coordinate and manage the collection, management and analysis of data from user directorates and departments, applying appropriate statistical methodologies to complex datasets, identifying trends, generating forecasts and projections, and designing or implementing effective data-gathering and management models and software.
- Provide statistical consultancy and technical guidance to user directorates and departments, interpreting and translating complex statistical information into clear, accessible insights and presenting findings through appropriate reports, presentations, dashboards and other formats to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate with 5 ‘O’ Levels with credit or better including Mathematics and English
- Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline.
- Professional Actuarial or similar certification is an added advantage.
Minimum Experience Required
- Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in statistical analysis, preferably in pensions, social security, insurance, banking or investment.
