Maamba Energy Limited, located in Maamba, Sinazongwe District, Southern Province, is inviting applications for the position of Senior Mine Planning Engineer. This full-time role offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead the development and management of optimised mine plans and production schedules that align with the company’s Life-of-Mine strategy, budget targets, and operational demands.

About the Senior Mine Planning Engineer Role

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role within the Mining Department, ensuring the delivery of accurate and practical mine designs and schedules. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Mining Operations, Geology, Survey, SHEQ, Engineering, Finance, and CHPP to drive operational excellence and sustainable mining practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Life-of-Mine, long-term, medium-term, and short-term mine plans and production schedules.
• Design practical mine layouts, including mining sequences, pit designs, haul roads, ramps, waste dumps, and stockpile strategies.
• Optimise coal recovery rates, stripping ratios, dilution, and minimise mining losses.
• Prepare detailed weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual mining plans.
• Monitor mining contractor performance relative to approved plans, production targets, contracts, and KPIs.
• Conduct plan-versus-actual analyses, identify deviations, and recommend corrective measures.
• Prepare production forecasts, reconciliations, dashboards, and comprehensive management reports.
• Track mining costs against budgets and identify opportunities to enhance productivity and efficiency.
• Identify operational risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Postgraduate qualifications in Mining, Engineering, Mineral Economics, Management, or related fields are advantageous.
• Paid-up membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ), Engineers Registration Board (ERB), or an equivalent professional body where applicable.
• Minimum of 10 years’ relevant mine planning experience, including at least 5 years in surface coal mining.
• Proven expertise in open-pit/surface coal mine planning is mandatory.
• Experience with pit design, mining phase/pushback design, production sequencing, haul-road design, and waste dump planning.
• Strong background in production scheduling, forecasting, budgeting, cost modelling, and mine plan optimisation.
• Experience monitoring contractor performance against plans, targets, contracts, and KPIs.
• Proficiency with Deswik or equivalent mine planning and scheduling software is highly desirable.
• Advanced skills in mine planning software, production reporting systems, and Microsoft Excel are beneficial.
