The primary responsibility of the Rock Tools Contract Operations Manager is to ensure the smooth and profitable operation of Sandvik rock tool contract sites, whether managed supply or cost per meter contracts. This position involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders to meet contract objectives and continuously highlight the value of Sandvik drilling consumables and services to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety and Environmental Compliance: Maintain thorough knowledge of and adherence to Sandvik’s Environmental, Health & Safety policies and systems, ensuring all contract sites comply with these standards.
- Operational Management: Oversee contract site profitability, collaborate with Product Support Managers on technical and warranty matters, and ensure all contract KPIs are achieved.
- Inventory and Logistics: Coordinate with Rock Tools Demand Planner and Sales Area Logistics to prepare accurate monthly stock forecasts and establish effective reorder points.
- Leadership and People Development: Build and nurture networks across Sandvik, mentor contract personnel, and promote career advancement opportunities within the company.
- Financial Oversight: Achieve budgeted margins and gross profit targets, ensure timely invoicing, and monitor accounts to comply with Sandvik Mining payment terms.
- Customer Service Excellence: Work closely with Contract Managers to deliver responsive, high-quality service and ensure timely product delivery that meets customer expectations for quality and value.
- Technical Expertise: Support contract teams in product selection, review rock tool usage data to identify improvement opportunities, and develop training programs to enhance product knowledge among crews and customers.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical), Business, or Project Management.
- At least 7 years of experience in mining and related equipment maintenance or engineering, including:
- Minimum 1 year working with Sandvik products.
- Minimum 2 years in contract or project management.
- Minimum 4 years in maintenance management practices and commercial contract management.
- Experience with Rotary and DTH Drilling is highly preferred.
- Proficient computer skills with a strong technical background across engineering disciplines.
- Fitness certification for underground and surface mines (Silicosis Certification).
- Strong planning, organizational, leadership, business, analytical, and project management skills.
- Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
