Key Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng, B.Sc, or B.Tech).
- Minimum of 5–8 years' experience in mechanical engineering, project management, or underground mining operations.
- Proven experience managing mechanical projects from initiation through completion.
- Extensive experience in underground mining, heavy engineering, mining services, or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) with a valid practicing license.
- Valid Silicosis Certificate.
- Valid driver's license with a minimum of 2 years' driving experience.
- Strong understanding of underground mining equipment, machinery, and mechanical systems.
- Experience supervising large teams across multiple operational sites.
- Knowledge of preventative and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
- Experience preparing quotations, project reports, and operational documentation.
- Knowledge of stock control, inventory management, and procurement processes.
- Familiarity with mining legislation, safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
- Ability to work under pressure in demanding mining environments.
- Willingness to travel between project sites when required.
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
- Experience using maintenance management or asset management systems is advantageous.
- Excellent planning, coordination, and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee mechanical engineering projects from commencement to completion.
- Manage daily operations across multiple project sites to ensure productivity and efficiency.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Supervise engineering teams, contractors, and site personnel.
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Allocate resources, manpower, equipment, and materials effectively.
- Conduct routine site inspections and performance assessments.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and company standards.
- Develop and monitor preventative maintenance schedules for mechanical equipment.
- Investigate equipment failures and implement long-term solutions.
- Review and approve daily work plans and maintenance schedules.
- Oversee inventory, spare parts, and stock management processes.
- Prepare technical reports, project updates, and monthly operational reports.
- Manage quotations, procurement requests, and supplier communications.
- Liaise with clients regarding project progress and service delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Support business development through client engagement and identifying new opportunities.
- Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of engineering records.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineering and supervisory staff.
- Participate in project planning meetings and operational reviews.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with statutory and industry regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operations.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.Eng, B.Sc, or B.Tech).
- EIZ Registration with a valid practicing license.

- Minimum of 5–8 years' experience in underground mining, heavy engineering, or mechanical project management.
- Proven experience managing mechanical engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience working within mining, engineering, or heavy industrial environments.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong knowledge of mining safety legislation and engineering best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering/project management software.
- Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is advantageous.
- Occupational Health & Safety training or certification is advantageous.
- First Aid certification is advantageous.
- Membership of a recognized engineering professional body is advantageous.
