Zambia Sugar Plc., a leading sugar producer in Zambia and part of the ABF Group, is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for multiple offcrop artisan jobs in Mazabuka. These full-time positions are based at the Nakambala Estate and offer a contract duration of up to four months during the 2026/27 off-crop season.
Overview of Offcrop Artisan Jobs in Mazabuka
The Manufacturing Department at Nakambala Estate invites applications for a variety of technical and artisan roles. Candidates will contribute to maintaining and optimizing the plant’s operations through skilled maintenance and fabrication work. These roles provide an excellent opportunity to work within a robust industrial environment and gain valuable experience in the sugar industry.
Available Positions and Key Responsibilities
Technician Instruments (2 positions)
Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman – Instrumentation, responsibilities include implementing the “ABF Way of Maintenance” (iAMP), performing daily plant inspections, installing and calibrating pneumatic and mechanical instruments, tuning control loops, and maintaining 5S standards.
Artisan Machinist (2 positions)
Under the Lead Artisan – Machine Workshop, duties involve reading engineering drawings, machining parts on various machines, executing shutdown activities, and performing standby duties.
Artisan Electrician (2 positions)
Reporting to the Maintenance Foremen – Electrical, key tasks include electrical maintenance for plant availability, equipment repair, cable preparation, motor lubrication, and participation in root cause analysis.
Artisan Rigger (2 positions)
Duties include inspecting and repairing lifting equipment, erecting scaffolding, handling machinery up to 18 tons, and operating overhead cranes under the Lead Artisan – Fire & Lifting.
Artisan Fitter (10 positions)
Responsibilities encompass reading engineering drawings, overhauling gearboxes and conveyors, fabricating steel components, and executing maintenance shutdowns.
Artisan Boilermaker (5 positions)
Tasks include welding, cutting with oxy-acetylene equipment, interpreting technical drawings, and fabricating/installing structural components.
Artisan Welder (6 positions)
Duties involve welding and repairing plant components, using welding machines for various applications, and performing all welding activities within the construction section.
Crane Operator (2 positions)
Responsibilities include inspecting cranes, erecting scaffolds, lifting heavy machinery, greasing cranes, and operating overhead cranes.
Artisan Plumber (1 position)
Tasks include pipe cutting and threading, repairing and installing piping systems, maintaining gutters and flashing, and handling valves.
Artisan Painter (2 positions)
Key duties cover painting and sign-writing, minimizing material wastage, providing technical advice, and reporting on material usage.
Handyman Fitter (2 positions)
Responsibilities include equipment inspections, maintenance of vee belts and glands, lubrication, fabrication of steel components, and basic pipe fitting.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Each position requires a Grade 12 Certificate as a minimum. Additional qualifications vary by role and include diplomas, craft certificates, trade test certificates, and membership in professional bodies such as the Engineering Institute of Zambia. Relevant industrial experience, particularly in heavy industry or the sugar sector, is highly advantageous.
