Position Overview: Medical Billing Officer

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of medical billing operations, including verifying insurance eligibility, submitting claims, monitoring their status, and reconciling payments. • Verify NHIMA and private insurance eligibility and confirm patient benefits, limits, and authorisations.
• Accurately register and update patient insurance information in the system.
• Process billing for NHIMA, private medical schemes, and corporate health schemes.
• Ensure all healthcare services provided are properly documented and billed.
• Prepare and submit insurance claims with complete supporting documentation.
• Manage pre-authorisations for procedures, investigations, and admissions as required.
• Monitor submitted claims and follow up on pending, rejected, or queried cases.

• Coordinate with insurance companies, NHIMA, and scheme administrators regarding claims and patient benefits.

• Identify and prevent duplicate billing, incorrect charges, and discrepancies.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient, insurance, and financial information at all times.
• Prepare monthly NHIMA and insurance billing and claims reports.
• Stay updated on NHIMA requirements, insurer tariffs, benefit packages, and claims procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• A diploma in Clinical Medicine or Nursing is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in medical billing, insurance claims processing, or a related role, preferably within a healthcare environment.
• Familiarity with NHIMA and private medical insurance processes and tariffs is a plus.
• Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and billing/claims management systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organisational skills, and accuracy in work.
