Job Description: Manager (Mechanical)-Boiler

Reports To: Manager-Mechanical

Supervises: Boiler Engineers, Pressure Part Technicians, Fitter/Welders

Job Summary:

Specialized role focused on the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of the Steam Boiler and its associated auxiliaries (Coal Mills, Fans, ESP, and Draft System).

Key Responsibilities:

Boiler Operations:

• Monitor furnace parameters, combustion efficiency, and flue gas temperature.
• Manage the pulverization system (Coal Mills) to ensure proper fineness and distribution.
• Control bed temperature (in FBC boilers) or burner tilt (in Tangential boilers) to manage superheater temperature.

Pressure Part Integrity:

• Supervise the maintenance of Water Wall tubes, Superheaters, Reheaters, and Economizers.
• Plan and execute tube replacement and welding jobs, ensuring compliance with IBR (Indian Boiler Regulations) or ASME standards.

Auxiliary Equipment:

• Oversee the maintenance of ID/FD/PA Fans, Air Preheaters, and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP).
• Ensure the proper operation of Soot Blowers to maintain heat transfer rates.

Statutory Compliance:

• Liaise with Boiler Inspectorate for statutory inspections and renewals.
• Ensure all safety valves and interlocks are functional and tested regularly.

Efficiency & Emissions:

• Monitor unburnt carbon in fly ash and bottom ash.
• Ensure emission levels (Particulate matter, SOx, NOx) are within the prescribed environmental limits.

Competencies:

• Expert in refractory management and tube welding techniques.
• Deep understanding of Furnace Safeguard Supervisory System (FSSS).
• Knowledge of erosion and corrosion mechanisms in boilers.

Qualifications:

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Specialized in Power Plant preferred).
• 12–18 years of experience, specifically in Boiler maintenance and operations.
