Kawambwa Sugar Limited is seeking a Manager/Manager-in-Charge (DM Plant) to lead the Water Treatment department. This role is crucial for ensuring the continuous production of high-purity Demineralized Water required for Boiler feed, Cooling towers, and process applications. The position is responsible for the chemical and mechanical reliability of the DM Plant, ETP, and STP.

Responsibilities or duties

Water Quality Management:

  • Ensure the final DM Water quality meets stringent parameters (Conductivity < 5 µS/cm, Silica < 20 ppb).
  • Monitor and control the performance of DM Plant equipment (Ion Exchange, RO, UF).
  • Oversee the regeneration process of Ion Exchange resins.
  • Ensure timely calibration and maintenance of water quality monitoring instruments.
  • Manage the chemical dosing for boiler feed water and cooling towers.
  • Maintain accurate records of water quality parameters and operational data.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for DM Plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures in valves, strainers, and dosing pumps.

Waste Management (ETP):

  • Ensure the Effluent Treatment Plant operates efficiently to neutralize acidic/alkaline waste before discharge.
  • Manage the disposal of sludge and ensure zero-liquid discharge (ZLD) compliance if applicable.

Inventory & Consumables:

  • Monitor and ensure the availability of critical consumables: Resins, Activated Carbon, Sand, Anti-scalants, and Chemicals (HCl, NaOH).
  • Manage the procurement budget for chemicals.

Safety:

  • Implement strict safety protocols for handling hazardous chemicals (Acids/Bases).
  • Ensure availability of safety showers, eye wash stations, and PPEs in the plant area.

Qualifications or requirements

Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of membrane technology (UF, RO) and ion exchange processes.
  • Strong understanding of steam-water cycle chemistry and corrosion control.
  • Analytical skills for interpreting laboratory test results and initiating corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering OR M.Sc. in Chemistry (Industrial).
  • Certification in Water Treatment is an advantage.

Experience needed

10–15 years of experience in water treatment plant operations (Power Plant or Petrochemical preferred).
