The Higher Education Authority (HEA) is inviting applications for the engagement of two (2) Interns to support the Corporate Communications Unit for a period of One (1) year.
JOB PURPOSE
To gain practical experience while supporting HEA’s publications, digital communication and stakeholder engagement. The immediate priority is the compilation, writing and editing of the Authority’s Annual Report. Interns will also assist with routine communication activities under the supervision of the Corporate Communications Officer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collate departmental Annual Report inputs, track submissions and assist with drafting, editing, proofreading and publication proofs.
- Verify names, figures and statements against supplied records; flag gaps and inconsistencies for clarification.
- Prepare draft news stories, website updates, social media posts and other communication materials for review and approval.
- Assist with the content calendar, authorised digital updates and basic audience engagement statistics.
- Monitor media coverage, prepare summaries and maintain media and stakeholder contact lists.
- Support event publicity, invitations, registration, protocol arrangements and event documentation.
- Maintain organised publication files, photographs, correspondence, meeting records and activity reports.
- Distribute approved information, log enquiries and refer sensitive or technical matters to the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communication, Public Relations, Mass Communication or a related media or communication field.
- Registration with the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) is required. A valid practising licence is an added advantage.
- No prior formal work experience is required. Academic projects, student publications, volunteer work or attachments involving reports or communication content are an added advantage.
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Strong written English, editing, proofreading and basic research skills, with close attention to accuracy and detail.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; basic digital publishing, graphic design, photography or video skills are an added advantage.
- Good interpersonal and organisational skills, confidentiality, integrity, willingness to learn and ability to meet agreed deadlines under supervision.
