Key Requirements

  • 2–3 years’ experience in Health & Safety, EHS, SHEQ or a related environment.
  • Practical experience working as a Health & Safety Officer.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Experience investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience conducting safety inductions, refresher training and awareness programmes.
  • Experience coordinating emergency drills and supporting emergency response procedures.
  • Knowledge of PPE requirements and workplace PPE management.
  • Experience maintaining safety records, incident registers, audit findings and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Experience monitoring compliance with internal policies, procedures and applicable legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, management and other stakeholders.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant and environmentally responsible workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular workplace, plant, facility and safety inspections to identify hazards and non-compliance.
  • Complete and review baseline risk assessments, hygiene surveys and other safety assessments.
  • Investigate workplace incidents, determine root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor the implementation and closure of corrective actions following incidents, inspections and audits.
  • Conduct SHE/EHS inductions, operational control training and regular refresher training.
  • Promote safety awareness through campaigns, toolbox talks and workplace safety initiatives.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and ensure emergency response procedures are communicated and maintained.
  • Conduct internal EHS audits, prepare checklists and document audit findings.
  • Monitor compliance with occupational health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, audits, training, corrective actions and compliance activities.
  • Monitor PPE requirements and ensure appropriate safety equipment is available and used correctly.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of SHEQ procedures, SOPs and compliance registers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workplace safety, environmental performance and operational compliance.
  • Support waste recycling, energy reduction and other sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare statutory, compliance, audit and management reports accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Escalate significant safety risks, incidents, non-conformances and unresolved compliance issues.
  • Support management with the implementation of EHS strategies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and encourage employees to take responsibility for workplace safety.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / GCE – Minimum requirement.
  • Recognised Health & Safety / Occupational Health & Safety certification – Required.
  • Additional SHEQ, EHS or Environmental Management qualifications – Advantageous.
  • Relevant training in risk assessment, incident investigation or workplace safety – Advantageous.
  • Emergency response, first aid or fire safety training – Advantageous.
