Key Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice and admission as an Advocate of the High Court.
• Minimum 4 years’ post-admission legal experience, preferably with strong exposure to corporate and commercial law.
• Proven experience in litigation, dispute resolution, debt recovery, regulatory matters and legal risk management.
• Strong understanding of corporate governance, commercial contracts, compliance and applicable legal requirements.
• Experience advising senior management and boards on legal, regulatory and commercial matters.
• Proven ability to manage external legal counsel, legal service providers and outsourced litigation matters.
• Strong experience developing legal policies, frameworks, contracts and risk management procedures.
• Ability to identify legal and regulatory risks and provide commercially practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the legal function and provide strategic legal advice to senior management and the Board on business and regulatory matters.
• Provide legal guidance across lending, commercial transactions, employment, procurement, data protection, consumer protection and corporate law.
• Manage litigation portfolios, court proceedings, dispute resolution and relationships with external advocates and legal firms.
• Oversee debt recovery and enforcement activities, including secured and unsecured lending and asset recovery.
• Manage regulatory relationships and coordinate responses to regulatory inspections, investigations and legal requirements.
• Advise on corporate governance, Board matters, statutory obligations and corporate records.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, loan documentation, supplier contracts, employment agreements and other legal documents.
• Develop and maintain legal risk frameworks, registers, policies and procedures to minimise legal and regulatory exposure.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise management on their potential impact on the organisation.
• Manage external legal service providers, including performance, costs, service levels and overall value for money.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

• Additional qualifications or training in corporate governance, compliance or commercial law would be beneficial.
