Gertmark Agencies Limited is a Zambian-based company involved in the distribution and supply of consumer and commercial products, with a focus on delivering quality products to the Zambian market through strong distribution, sales and customer relationships.
Gertmark Agencies Limited is seeking a Hair Technician to support the growth and development of its hair-care portfolio in Lusaka. The role combines technical hair-care expertise with sales, customer engagement and business development.
The Hair Technician will work closely with salon owners, hairstylists, beauticians, retailers, wholesalers and other trade partners, providing product demonstrations and technical training while driving product adoption, distribution, visibility and sales within the assigned territory.
The successful candidate will be a confident field-based professional who understands hair care and styling, can effectively demonstrate product application, and has the commercial ability to convert customer relationships into sustainable business growth.
Key responsibilities:
1.Product Demonstration & Technical Training:
- Plan and conduct product demonstrations, technical sessions and hands-on training for salon owners, stylists, beauticians and relevant trade partners.
- Educate customers on product benefits, application techniques, usage instructions and appropriate product combinations.
- Maintain a monthly training calendar and ensure consistent use of approved brand educational materials.
- Follow up with trained salons and stylists to encourage product adoption and continued usage.
- Develop stylists and salon professionals into active brand advocates through continuous education and engagement.
2.Customer & Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key salons, stylists, beauty professionals and relevant channel partners.
- Conduct regular salon and customer visits to understand customer needs, gather feedback and identify opportunities to increase product usage and recommendations.
- Provide professional and responsive customer service.
- Maintain accurate records of salons and stylists trained and follow up on subsequent product adoption.
3.Sales & Business Development:
- Identify and recruit new salons, beauty/cosmetic shops, retailers and wholesalers within the assigned territory.
- Deliver a minimum of 10 new accounts per week, ensuring newly opened accounts are appropriately stocked and supported.
- Drive sales across the company’s hair-care portfolio and encourage the sale of complementary products.
- Increase the number of SKUs carried per outlet and progressively improve average order value.
- Achieve agreed sales and distribution targets.
4.Distribution & Trade Marketing:
- Work closely with distributors and the sales team to improve product availability, numeric distribution and visibility.
- Ensure outlets stock the appropriate product range.
- Identify distribution gaps and recommend actions to improve market coverage.
- Ensure 100% implementation of approved trade marketing initiatives within assigned outlets.
- Support merchandising, POSM placement, promotional execution, product displays and visibility standards.
- Provide evidence of execution and promptly highlight implementation challenges.
5.Territory & Field Management:
- Maintain a structured daily journey plan and achieve a minimum 95% call completion rate.
- Ensure each customer visit has a defined commercial or technical objective, including selling, training, merchandising, account development or relationship building.
- Achieve a minimum 75% strike rate from productive customer calls.
- Improve conversion through effective product presentation, demonstrations, range selling and disciplined follow-up.
- Manage the assigned territory independently and effectively.
6. Market Intelligence:
- Regularly collect market information, including competitor pricing, promotions, new product launches, stylist feedback, customer preferences and emerging hair-care trends.
- Share actionable market intelligence with the Country Manager and relevant commercial and marketing teams.
- Capture feedback regarding product performance, packaging, pricing and usage.
- Escalate recurring product concerns and customer complaints and support appropriate follow-up.
7.Account Management & Reporting:
- Support the collection of outstanding customer balances and maintain disciplined account management.
- Maintain accurate customer and account records.
- Submit accurate and timely daily, weekly and monthly reports covering customer calls, training sessions, new accounts, sales generated, distribution gains, competitive activity and market feedback.
- Track and report on key performance indicators and agreed commercial targets.
Qualifications & experience:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree or Diploma in Sales and Marketing, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an FMCG environment, sales, customer service, beauty or hair-care industry.
- Practical knowledge and experience in hair care, styling and product application.
- Experience conducting product demonstrations or technical training will be an advantage.
- Experience working with salons, stylists, beauty professionals, retailers or distributors is highly desirable.
- Valid Class B or equivalent unrestricted Driver’s Licence.
