Farm Mechanic

Key Requirements

• Minimum 5 years' proven experience as a Farm Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, or Heavy Equipment Mechanic within an agricultural or related environment.
• Strong experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing agricultural machinery, tractors, commercial vehicles, and farm implements.
• Sound knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, transmissions, steering, braking, and suspension components.
• Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.
• Experience carrying out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
• Good workshop management, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
• Valid driver's licence with the flexibility to respond to field breakdowns and work extended hours when required.
• Welding, fabrication, and basic machining experience will be advantageous.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and maintaining high equipment performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain, and repair agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles, and farm equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic faults to minimise operational downtime.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing to ensure maximum equipment reliability.
• Repair engines, gearboxes, transmissions, steering systems, brakes, suspension, and hydraulic components.
• Perform welding, fabrication, tyre repairs, and minor machining work where required.
• Respond promptly to field breakdowns and carry out emergency repairs to support farming operations.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, job cards, and maintenance documentation.
• Monitor spare parts usage and report replacement requirements to ensure workshop efficiency.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop while complying with health and safety regulations.
• Assist with equipment commissioning, machinery inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Trade Test Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience maintaining agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles, or heavy equipment.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance programmes.
• Welding and fabrication experience is advantageous.
• Ability to interpret technical manuals, parts diagrams, and maintenance documentation.
