Job Purpose
To install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment and systems in underground mining operations, ensuring maximum equipment availability and compliance with electrical safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Install, maintain and repair underground electrical equipment and systems.
Carry out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance.
Diagnose electrical faults and undertake repairs.
Maintain underground power distribution systems.
Inspect electrical installations and identify potential hazards.
Conduct testing and isolation of electrical equipment in accordance with approved procedures.
Maintain electrical equipment, cables, switchgear, motors and related installations.
Ensure electrical work is conducted in accordance with approved mine procedures.
Complete maintenance records and report equipment defects.
Participate in planned maintenance shutdowns.
Assist with emergency electrical breakdowns.
Maintain good housekeeping in electrical work areas.
Comply with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) and electrical isolation procedures.
Participate in toolbox meetings and safety programmes.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 School Certificate.
Craft Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Valid electrical trade qualification.
Relevant professional registration/certification where applicable.
Minimum 3 years' experience in electrical maintenance, preferably in an underground mining environment.
Strong knowledge of industrial/underground electrical systems.
Knowledge of mine electrical safety and isolation procedures.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
Physically fit and able to work underground and on a shift basis.
