About Rooted Academy

At Rooted Academy, we believe that every child deserves a strong foundation, a nurturing environment and the opportunity to discover their full potential.

Guided by our philosophy, Strong Roots • Bright Futures we are building a learning community where young children feel safe, valued, confident and excited to explore the world around them.

We are seeking a passionate, creative and nurturing ECD Teacher for our Nursery class, catering to children aged 3–4 years, who understands the importance of early childhood development and is committed to creating meaningful, play-based learning experiences.

If you believe that little minds grow best through curiosity, exploration, encouragement and purposeful play, we would love to hear from you!

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that support children's cognitive, language, physical, social and emotional development.

You will help establish a warm, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment where every child is encouraged to explore, communicate, build relationships and develop independence.

Experience with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework is highly desirable, as Rooted Academy seeks to incorporate EYFS principles into its early-years learning approach, alongside applicable Zambian education requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Curriculum Delivery
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate, play-based learning activities for children aged 3–4 years.
  • Apply EYFS principles and developmental milestones to support children's individual learning journeys.
  • Develop activities that encourage communication, early language, numeracy, creativity, problem-solving and physical development.
  • Use stories, music, movement, sensory exploration, creative arts and structured play to make learning meaningful.
  • Prepare classroom resources and learning materials that stimulate curiosity and discovery.
  1. Child Development and Assessment
  • Observe, assess and document children's developmental progress.
  • Identify individual learning needs and adapt activities to accommodate different abilities and developmental stages.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, communication and positive social interactions.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to parents and contribute to discussions about children's progress.
  1. Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organised and child-friendly classroom.
  • Follow applicable child protection, safeguarding, health and safety procedures.
  • Promote positive behaviour through patience, encouragement, clear boundaries and age-appropriate guidance.
  • Support children's emotional wellbeing and help them develop healthy relationships with peers and adults.
  • Maintain appropriate hygiene routines and follow the school's health and safety procedures.
  1. Parent and Community Engagement
  • Establish positive, respectful relationships with parents and caregivers.
  • Communicate children's progress, achievements and developmental needs professionally.
  • Encourage meaningful collaboration between home and school.
  • Participate in school activities, events and family engagement initiatives.
  1. Professional Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain consistency in teaching practices and learner support.
  • Participate in planning meetings, professional development and curriculum reviews.
  • Contribute ideas that strengthen Rooted Academy's educational programmes and learning environment.
  • Uphold the school's values, professional standards and commitment to continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A minimum three-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education from a recognised institution.
  • The applicable Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) registration and valid practising certificate, where required for the role.
  • Practical experience teaching children in an ECD, nursery or kindergarten setting.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate teaching methodologies.
  • Experience applying the EYFS framework or a strong understanding of its principles.
  • Knowledge of play-based, child-centred and inclusive learning approaches.
  • An understanding of child safeguarding, classroom safety and developmental assessment.

Additional advantage: Experience working in a newly established school or helping develop classroom programmes, learning resources and early-years teaching practices.

The Person We're Looking For

Beyond qualifications, we are looking for an educator who:

  • Has a genuine love for working with children aged 3–4 years.
  • Is patient, warm, creative, observant and emotionally responsive.
  • Understands that children develop at different rates and require individualised support.
  • Communicates effectively with children, parents and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates initiative, reliability, professionalism and strong organisational skills.
  • Is enthusiastic about learning, innovation and professional development.
  • Shares our belief that early childhood education should nurture the whole child.

At Rooted Academy, we value educators who understand that teaching young children is not simply about preparing them for the next class. It is about helping them develop the confidence, curiosity and foundational skills they will carry throughout life.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to contribute to the development of a growing educational institution.
  • A supportive, purpose-driven and collaborative working environment.
  • The opportunity to shape meaningful early-years learning experiences.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development.
