About the Energy Regulation Board (ERB)

Established under the Energy Regulation Act No. 12 of 2019, the ERB is the statutory authority responsible for regulating Zambia’s energy sector. The Board aims to promote compliance with licensing conditions, technical standards, and environmental and safety regulations to foster a reliable and sustainable energy environment.

Position Overview: Director Electricity and Renewable Energy

Reporting directly to the Director General, the Director will oversee the regulation, monitoring, and compliance of electricity and renewable energy undertakings. This fixed-term contract role (ERB Grade 2) demands strategic leadership to ensure adherence to statutory requirements and to promote innovative renewable energy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities for Director Electricity and Renewable Energy Jobs in Lusaka

• Develop and implement strategic plans for effective regulation and compliance monitoring of electricity and renewable energy sub-sectors.
• Lead inspection, monitoring, and audit programs for energy installations to ensure compliance with licence and statutory conditions.
• Analyze compliance trends and initiate appropriate enforcement actions to address violations.
• Drive the development and periodic review of technical standards, codes, and guidelines.
• Oversee technical inspections and compliance audits, directing corrective actions as necessary.
• Champion the regulation and promotion of renewable energy technologies and initiatives.
• Provide expert technical advice to the Director General and the Board on sector developments and challenges.
• Engage with key stakeholders, including licensees, investors, and government agencies, to foster collaboration.
• Contribute technical input to licensing processes and evaluate applications rigorously.
• Monitor sector performance and prepare detailed reports for management and the Board.
• Identify regulatory risks and facilitate resolution of technical disputes within the sector.
• Manage departmental budgets and resources efficiently.
• Lead, supervise, and develop departmental staff to achieve organizational goals.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent, with at least five (5) credits.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
• Master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
• Valid membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
• Verification of qualifications by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) is mandatory.
• Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant experience in the energy sector, including at least five (5) years in senior management roles.
