About Lupiya

Lupiya Financial Services Limited is a financial institution headquartered in Lusaka, delivering accessible lending and financial services across Zambia. We are seeking a Credit Analyst to join our Credit team.

Role Purpose

The Credit Analyst plays a vital role in assessing the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses applying for credit. Reporting to the Head of Credit, the role analyses financial data, evaluates credit risk and makes recommendations that support sound, well-informed lending decisions within the Company’s approved risk appetite and regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Analysis and Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of loan applicants by analysing financial statements, credit reports, tax returns and other relevant financial data.
  • Assess credit risk against factors such as payment history, debt-to-income ratio, cash flow and collateral value, and assign appropriate credit ratings.
  • Develop financial models to forecast borrower performance and assess the impact of different credit scenarios on the loan portfolio.

Credit Decisions and Policy Compliance

  • Make credit recommendations or decisions based on analysis findings — approving, declining or modifying credit applications within delegated authority limits.
  • Ensure compliance with credit policies, procedures and regulatory requirements, including fair lending practices, anti-money laundering (AML) regulations and Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines.

Portfolio Management

  • Monitor the performance of existing loan portfolios and identify potential credit issues or deteriorating trends.
  • Recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies and escalate emerging risks promptly.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Present credit analysis findings and recommendations to management, loan committees and other stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Communicate credit decisions and requirements to loan applicants through their loan officers, providing guidance on credit improvement strategies and addressing customer queries.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with loan officers, underwriters and other internal stakeholders to facilitate timely and accurate credit decisions.
  • Resolve credit-related issues and support the achievement of wider business objectives.

Key Stakeholder Relationships

  • Internal: Head of Credit; loan officers and underwriters; Credit and Loan Committees; Risk, Compliance and Finance; Commercial and Customer Experience teams.
  • External: Credit reference bureaux; regulators and industry bodies; loan applicants, engaged through their loan officers.

Competencies and Skills

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and perform quantitative analysis.
  • Sound knowledge of financial statement analysis, credit risk assessment techniques and lending principles.
  • Familiarity with credit scoring models, underwriting guidelines and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • High level of integrity and sound judgement in handling confidential financial information.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a credit analysis role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial modelling software and credit analysis tools.
  • Prior experience in banking or financial services is an added advantage.
