Position Overview for TSF Coordinator Jobs in Kalumbila

Reporting directly to the Superintendent – Tailings Storage Facility, the Coordinator will manage and supervise all operational teams involved in tailings storage facility activities. This includes oversight of the Operations, Piping & Pumping, and Laboratory teams, as well as coordinating with the Engineer of Record’s quality assurance and design personnel on site. The role demands a proactive leader committed to zero harm and effective partnership cultivation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the Tailings Storage Facility, ensuring compliance with Barrick’s standards and safety protocols.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of TSF design basis, construction history, and performance objectives.
• Participate in Potential Failure Mode Analysis (PFMA), risk assessments, and updates to the Critical Controls Management Plan (CCMP).
• Support maintenance and training related to the Operations Management System (OMS) Manual and Trigger Action Response Plans (TARP).
• Conduct daily Routine Inspections, document findings, and report promptly to the Superintendent.
• Assist in coordinating Dam Safety Inspections and Reviews, including site walkovers with the Engineer of Record and review panels.
• Monitor Quantitative Performance Objectives and initiate appropriate responses to trigger levels.
• Collect and analyze geotechnical, hydrological, and environmental data for quarterly reporting.
• Support Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan testing and ensure operational teams are trained and competent.
• Maintain accurate site records and documentation in accordance with corporate standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in tailings or geotechnical operations, with at least 2 years in a senior supervisory role managing multiple teams on an active TSF.
• Proven hands-on experience managing TSF deposition, pipeline and pumping infrastructure, and tailings laboratory operations.
• Experience working with external Engineer of Record or design consultant teams during construction or operational phases.
• Familiarity with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM 2020) and corporate standards such as BCG-MI-ST-01.
• Professional Engineer registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
• Demonstrated capability to lead a large, multicultural team in a remote, 24/7 operational environment.
• Experience in sub-Saharan Africa or similar challenging environments is advantageous.
