The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities is a quasi-government agency established under the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 33 of 1996 and continued under the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 06 of 2012. The Agency is mandated to plan, promote and coordinate services for persons with disabilities.

The Agency invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the following position.

Position: Assistant Provincial Coordinator (1)

Department: Rehabilitation and Research

Work station: Southern Province (Choma)

Reports to: Provincial Coordinator

Duration: Permanent and Pensionable

MAIN PURPOSE

Facilitate services for persons with disabilities in areas such as rehabilitation, resettlement, employment, training and empowerment, while harnessing their potential for inclusion in mainstream society.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilitate registration of persons with disabilities and maintain the provincial database.
  2. Identify buildings inaccessible to persons with disabilities and inform the Provincial Coordinator for further action.
  3. Assist the Provincial Coordinator in conducting needs assessments of persons with disabilities and making recommendations or referrals.
  4. Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual reports for onward submission to the Provincial Coordinator.
  5. Maintain employee files and establish a register of all employees in the province.
  6. Manage the inventory of Agency assets in the district and province by maintaining an updated asset register.
  7. Facilitate coordination of Organisations of or for Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).
  8. Ensure registered OPDs are audited before onward uploading to the ZAPD website.
  9. Carry out programmes to inform and raise public awareness of disability rights.
  10. Collect statistical data from relevant institutions on disability issues for planning, promotion, administration, monitoring and evaluation of services, as advised by the Provincial Coordinator.
  11. Monitor services to persons with disabilities and implementation of the Act and relevant policies or national strategies.
  12. Facilitate submission of CVs of persons with disabilities to the Provincial Coordinator for onward submission to Head Office.
  13. Carry out other duties assigned by superiors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 or GCE certificate, ZAQA certified.
  • Diploma in Social Work or a related Social Sciences field, ZAQA certified.
  • One year of work experience.
  • Must be a Zambian with a green National Registration Card.
  • Counselling experience is an added advantage.

OTHER ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent knowledge of and sensitivity to issues affecting persons with disabilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong writing skills in project proposal development.
