Our client requires a detail-oriented and organised Assistant Accountant on a contract basis to support their Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring effective financial controls.

About the Assistant Accountant Role

The Assistant Accountant will play a vital role in supporting daily accounting operations, including financial reconciliations, monitoring receivables and payables, stock verification, and assisting with tax compliance. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Finance Manager, Sales Representatives, and other departments to guarantee timely, complete, and accurate financial information.

Key Responsibilities for Assistant Accountant Jobs in Kitwe

• Accurately enter data into the accounting system in a timely manner.
• Conduct sales reconciliations with Sales Representatives and investigate any discrepancies.
• Perform trade debt and staff debt reconciliations and prepare corresponding reports.
• Carry out weekly stock verifications and spot checks as required.
• Reconcile bank statements and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Reconcile petty cash expenses with proper supporting documentation.
• Monitor accounts receivable and perform reconciliations of outstanding balances.
• Ensure accounts payable records are accurate and up to date through regular reconciliations.
• Assist in preparing financial schedules and reports as needed.
• Compile supporting documentation for monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings.
• Support month-end and year-end accounting processes.
• Maintain well-organised, complete, and accurate financial records.
• Identify and report any accounting discrepancies or irregularities to the Finance Manager.
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all financial information.
• Perform additional finance-related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification such as ZICA, ACCA, or CIMA is required or considered an advantage.
• Paid-up membership with ZICA.
• 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.
• Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles and practices.
• Experience with bank, receivables, payables, sales, and petty cash reconciliations.
• Experience in stock verification or control is advantageous.
• Proficiency in accounting software and packages.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional integrity.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
